2006 Don Ridler Memorial Award Winner
This years competition for the Don Ridler Memorial Award winner was much closer than in recent years and the variety of cars was also broad ranging from the obligatory Ford roadster to late-'50s Chevy's.
The winner is---Kevin Alstott of Ft. Dodge, Iowa with his '35 Ford convertible built by Roger Burman and his crew at Lakeside Rods & Rides. (Ironically in this month's issue of Street Rodder the yellow "sister" roadster is featured.) The Dunlop tires are mounted to custom one-off wheels, 20 x 10 and 17 x 7, holding up the custom S.A.C. 'rails featuring a stretched wheelbase. To this a Marcel Custom Metal fitted a convertible body that was then painted in a PPG two-tone.
Power is supplied by a 408-inch Donovan block (Chevy configured) hooked to a Tremec 6-speed with a SST exhaust and Sanderson headers. The suspension is based on an Indy-style system while the wiring comes from a Painless Wiring kit.
