The Driven Award
Once again Street Rodder through the sponsorship of Lokar Performance Products is able to present the Driven Award to a pre-'49 car or truck at Detroit that best typifies what street (operative word) rodding is all about.
This years' recipient is Michael Reed of Brighton, Mich., with his '34 Ford pickup painted in Viper yellow (what would you expect from a DaimlerChrysler employee). The truck has been around as a hot rod since the '60s and has 20,000 miles on its most current redo.
The truck is chopped and channeled five inches while the bed has had 10 inches cut from it. The powertrain, what else, is a '69 Chrysler 340-inch V8, a 904 Chrysler automatic, and a Chrysler 8 3/4 rearend. The wiring was handled by Norm Smith while the woodwork was sawed-up by Paul "Curly" Adams and John Newpower. Friends and car club Cowtown Crusiers are others who have helped on this project.
