For the past three years the Autorama Extreme has continued to grown in popularity and without question has become its own event within an event. This year was no different as the Basement (as it has come to be known) continued to be popular with the nostalgia and tuner crowd.
Also for the third year running we have selected our favorite from a room full of favorites. No question the more youthful of the hot rod crowd has their own ideas, their own way of expressing themselves, and most definitely their own build styles. It truly is a fresh change of pace as to what is seen up top. If you want slick, pressed to fit street rods go upstairs you won't be disappointed, however, if you want a fresh breath of creativity then take a look at what the Basement has to offer--there too you will not be disappointed.
This year the Editor's Choice for favorite Basement dweller goes to Mike Newman of Hanover, Pennsylvania for his Model A ('30) five-window highboy coupe. His ride features a 3 1/2 inch chop at the front and a 3 inch chop at the rear of the top, from here a 4-inch channel job can be seen. All of this rests on a chassis with a Winters centersection quickie, 16-inch steelies that measure 4 inches wide in front and 4 1/2 inches wide in back wrapped with 7.00 and 5.50s respectively.
The Flathead measures out in the 274 inch category utilizing a Merc crank, Thickston intake and air cleaners topped with a pair of 97s. Other points of interest is the side steering, manual tranny, Guide headlights, Deuce grille, and vintage heater.
