2009 Bonneville Nationals 1927 Ford Roadster
|
"Flatheads Forever!" was a common slogan heard 'round Bonneville back in the early '50s when the overhead valve engines started showing up, and the Flatty is still well regarded in the land speed racing circuit just like it is in street rodding. Dennis Mariani ran his '27 Ford roadster powered by a Ford Flathead in the BSTR class (Blown Street Roadster). The unaltered American production body, rear fenders, and headlights are a dead giveaway to the class designation. An average speed through the traps of 162.421 mph on Monday was good enough to get Dennis in the record books, bumping up the existing record nearly 2 mph. View Related Article
