We loved Bill Garnett's highboy roadster pickup, so much so that we gave him one of our awards. The four-banger on the '29 runs an early Iskenderian cam signed by Ed when it was ground.
The Drive-In
When the Grand National Roadster Show moved to Pomona there were some skeptics. One of the concerns was the venue-at the Fairplex the cars would have to be spread over a number of buildings rather than housed in one, but that has led to one of the unique features of this show: the Drive-In. On Saturday and Sunday the areas between the buildings are filled with street rods, customs, muscle cars, and trucks.
Open to pre-'73 vehicles, participants get entry into the show, a dash plaque, goodie bag, and the best parking on the grounds. Awards are given away each day, including a pair of plaques from Street Rodder.
With great weather, a cool collection of cars, lots of vendors, and good music by live bands, this year's GNRS Drive-In was like going to a rod run and having a car show break out. And there wasn't a skeptic on the grounds.

Jim Fitzpatrick's '49 Ford coupe is a great example of what was once called a sleeper. The only exterior hint that there might be a surprise under the hood, like the Chrysler Hemi it's packing, are the wide real wheels.
