The Southern California Woodies (aka So Cal Woodies), a chapter of the National Woodie Club, hosted another edition of the popular annual event, Doheny Wood. It was once again held at the (you guessed it) Doheny State Beach Park in Dana Point, California. This year's get-together was another single-day event. We're not sure how many years this outstanding "woodie only" event has been held by the So Cal Woodies, but it has to be more thana decade as we've attended at least eight years in a row.
The show is limited to wooden-bodied station wagons, convertibles, shooting brakes (English term for wood-bodied wagond), depot hacks and phantom woodies, and any other creation as long as its body encompasses some type of wooden body panel, door, or side body trim. Even so, plenty of enthusiasts with hot rods or customs attend, parking just outside of the woodie parking area-or avoid paying the state beach parking fee (like us!) and land their rides alongside the sidewalk next to Pacific Coast Highway. The show generally draws around 200 vehicles and is a great place to see a variety of stock, restified, and modified woodies, along with interesting beach/woodie/surf culture vendors. If you like what you see and want to check it out next year, more information can be attained by contacting the club website at www.socalwoodies.com/doheny.htm or the National Woodie Club at www.nationalwoodieclub.com.
