The 61st Detroit Autorama is well known for the magnitude of its car show but it is also the home of the Don Ridler Memorial Award; the ultimate prize in the world of indoor car shows.

This year celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Ridler award and over 20 cars vied for this award. However, in order to even be in the running you must make the cut. The Pirelli Great 8 represents the cream of the crop; the final eight entries who will compete for the Ridler.

In celebration of 50 years of this most prestigious of awards, the Autorama staff thought it fitting to gold plate this year's trophy. Impressive to look at and it will make a great conversation piece for years to come.

So without further ado, here are the Pirelli Great 8 finalists:

Christian Harker of New York with his '34 Ford fenderless coupe

Alan Beers of Owasso, Oklahoma with his '57 Chevy pickup
