Every year the judges at the Detroit Autorama receive dozens of applications to be considered for the show's top prize: the Don Ridler Memorial Award. Once the cars arrive at the show they are evaluated and inspected, and soon a group of eight vehicles (the Pirelli Great 8) are chosen, from which one will be named the Ridler winner. Some years it's an easier job to find the eight, but this was a hard year for the judges, with a razor-thin line separating who got in the elite grouping and who didn't.
