The NHRA Hot Rod Reunions are way up on our list of personal favorites, and for those of us back East that means Bowling Green, Kentucky. In Bowling Green three great things come together to make it a special weekend: A vintage venue with covered stadium seating, you sit very close to the action on both sides of the track, and the mix of great vintage drag racers supported by a couple thousand real hot rods parked in the huge show and shine area.

This year SoffSeal sponsored the show 'n' shine and the show had some of the highest quality cars we've ever seen at the reunion. The Hot Rod Reunion was also the kick-off point for the AMSOIL/STREET RODDER Road Tour and a designated premier event for the STREET RODDER Top 100, so as you can see there are plenty of reasons to attend the NHRA Hot Rod Reunion.

Making things even better, we finally had a picture-perfect weekend and the racing was non-stop, with everything from wheel standers to Top Fuel cars to jet cars in attendance. Of course being an East Coast event, there was a gaggle of geezers and their Gassers making passes down the vintage track, too.

Friday night is reserved for the free-to-everyone Hall of Fame induction ceremony held at the headquarter hotel. This year's 2013 honorees were Alan Bockla, Lynwood Dupuy, Melvin Heath, Jon Lundberg, and Tom Prock, while the 2013 Grand Marshall was none other than Preston Davis, driver of the famed Top Fuel dragsters "The Tennessee Bo-Weevil".

Beyond the thousands of show 'n' shine cars, the over 400 nostalgia drag cars, and a huge Cackle-fest, the big news this year was perfect weather. With highs in the 80s, the event finally shook its nickname of Boiling Green and the racing stayed on schedule throughout the weekend.

Like all great events this one went by too quickly and as the last traces of spent nitromethane wafted through the air it was time to pack up the cameras and head for home. Normally we would have to wait 12 months to make it to another reunion but this year we only have to wait several weeks until September 12-14, 2013, when the inaugural New England NHRA Hot Rod Reunion will begin in Epping, New Hampshire. We'll see you there for some good northeast hot rodding.
