The Swap Meet

For a large number of enthusiasts, Father’s Day weekend in Pomona isn’t about admiring finished cars, it’s about the huge parts safari that takes place in the far parking lot.

For those enthusiasts, the enormous annual swap meet is the event. The buyers are looking for those elusive car parts they need (or can’t resist). The vendors are looking to make a little (or a lot of) cash.

The serious hunters show up on Friday, before everything’s been picked through and the greatest stuff and sweetest deals haven’t been scooped up. By Sunday, the huge west end parking lot looks like an animal carcass after the lions have left. It might be a good time to negotiate some deals with vendors who would rather sell a part than pack it up and take it home, but generally, the hidden treasure has already been discovered.
