It might be cold outside but the temps are heating up inside Cobo Hall here in Detroit, Michigan as the 62nd Annual Meguiar's Autorama is wrapping up move-in. Literally hundreds of hot rod cars, trucks, motorcycles, and everything else could image is undergoing final touches before the show opens.
Show hours begin tomorrow, Friday, at 12 noon and run until 10 p.m. Show hours are 9 a.m. until 10 pm on Saturday and 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday. (Should you find yourself in the area drop on by—it's most definitely worth the trip.) Up until then the pace will be frantic as years' worth of effort is coming to fruition as hot rodders polish paint and chrome, prep aluminum and clean numerous windshields. We thought we would grab a couple of early photos of what's on the show floor.
Don't forget Street Rodder will be selecting the first for 2014 with its Top 100 selections, Best Ford in a Ford, and the Lokar Performance Driven Award.
Once you are here the contenders for the Don Ridler Memorial Award will greet you inside the main doors. But don't stop there as nearly 750,000 square feet (upstairs) will be filled wall to wall with cars and trucks. Downstairs will be loaded once again with the Xtreme rods—always an interesting and incredibly fun atmosphere. There will be a number of rockabilly bands playing Friday through Sunday and these bands always liven up the atmosphere. There is also the Vinsetta Garage Miss Autorama Pinup Girl contest on Saturday at 5 p.m.
Other show highlights include Feature Builder of the Year—Troy Trepanier of Rad Rides by Troy will have eight of his most popular builds on site for all to view. Something for every car fan will be the Petty's Garage featuring the latest performance vehicles. The King of NASCAR Richard Petty himself will be on hand to sign autographs as will Kyle Petty from 6-8 p.m. on Friday night. The featured club at this year's Autorama is the MHRA Club the Shifters, celebrating their 60th anniversary. Of course, there is the Street Rodder staff favorite—Spongebob Squarepants signing autographs on all three days.
