There were plenty of wicked Gassers lined up, featuring everything from hopped-up Tri-Five Chevys and Fords, to an injected Willys and even a blown ’57 Corvette. The impeccable recreation by Bill Corbett of the Magic Muffler AA/FA Fiat Topolino campaigned in the mid ’60s featured a blown 392ci Chrysler Hemi and a best run of 7.28 at 171 mph. The Scribner Automotive ’56 Chevy campaigned throughout the ’60s and is considered one of the most winning Tri-Fives in drag racing history. It had a top run of 12.32 at 115.54. With a nosebleed stance, razor-sharp body, mile-long ladder bars, and a 620hp tunnel ram–fed small-block, Steve Carpenter’s ’55 Chevy is all show with plenty of go.
