The 2014 Eastwood Road Tour got off to a great start at the 15th Annual Syracuse Nationals. The weather was perfect and the participants and spectators covered the New York State Fairgrounds beginning on Friday morning and continuing throughout the weekend. The Syracuse Nationals has become one of the premier events on the East Coast. The Right Coast Association makes sure that there is plenty to keep everyone busy all weekend. Besides over 8,000 vehicles to check out there were hundreds of vendors, a large swap meet and car corral to find those automotive treasures. Artie's Party was again a big attraction as pinstripers from all over the country pulled some classic lines and helped raise almost $50,000 for charity.
The Eastwood Road Tour participants were treated to special parking all weekend and a huge hospitality tent where folks could get their first look at our PPG Ferrari Red 1959 Chevy Impala hardtop built by Hot Rods by Dean. Saturday evening we were all in attendance at the awards ceremonies and banquet. Brad Fenshaw from Street Rod Custom Radio was Master of Ceremonies as Murray Pfaff introduced his Designer Dozen picks, Dave Tucci presented his Pro's Pick winner and we announced the Painless Wiring Top 100 picks for the event. The high point of the evening was hot rod legend Gene Winfield presenting the Meguire's Winfield Award to Mike Heim for his 1948 Studebaker pick up from Lancaster, Pa. Along with the award comes a check for $10,000. The Winfield Award has become one of the most sought after trophies in our hobby.
Sunday some of the Road Tourians headed back to the fairgrounds for the final day of activities while other headed to Springfield, Ma. to see the activities at Indian Day when those classic motorcycles come home to Springfield for a special afternoon. We have just gotten started on the Eastwood edition of the AMSOIL/ Street Rodder Road Tour. We tour New England on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and land in Pottstown, Pa. for the buildup to the 2014 Eastwood Summer Classic on Saturday July 26 at the Eastwood Headquarters.
