Setting up your car's interior controls can be as personal as you want. It's all about personal ergonomics, whatever feels good for you in your ride is how it should be. However, there are some aspects of setting up an interior that won't change too much from car to car without some serious thought and engineering. These are things like your seat, dash, and floor. Sure, you can modify all of these parts to fit your own taste, but how many people actually go the extra mile, or even think it's that important? The aftermarket world has taken care to manufacture many parts with bolt-in ease. So why take a perfectly good part and create a bunch more work for yourself, instead of just bolting it in and being done with it? Why not?
Take, for instance, setting up the ever-important driver's seat. Whether it's a bucket or bench, your tush-cush plays an important roll in keeping you in position, as well as comfortable, and should look as if it belongs there. We recently had a chance to witness Hot Rods & Custom Stuff of Escondido, California, set up a RodDoors bench seat in a '32 roadster with some pretty interesting requirements. For something a little different, the seat was to be mounted so that it could slide under the rear cowl area. Most '32 roadster bench seats butt up to the cowl and actually pillow above the rear cowl instead of under it. To complicate things slightly, the Lokar trunk latch handle was to be mount under the seat. This meant giving the entire project some thought as to how to get the seat low enough, but still have enough room for the trunk latch handle to be accessible as well as useful.
While we show you just how Hot Rods & Custom Stuff accomplished this, we'll also see how they mounted the Rocky Hinge Company's trick trunk latch out back.
