1939 Ford COE Truck - Big Truckin' Deal

think of this coe as a super-sized street rod

1939 Ford Coe Dashboard
The original '39 dashboard has been fitted with Haneline instruments and for a cleaner look the windshield has been V-butted. Thanks to the snub nose design, a unique steering arrangement was necessary. An 8-inch Flaming River column connects to a near vertical shaft leading to the steering box.
1939 Ford Coe Radiator
Under the smoothed hood that now swings on custom hinges is an air conditioning condenser and a radiator scaled to match the truck. Built by Mattson's in Stanton, CA, they both ensure the COE keeps its cool.
1939 Ford Coe Rear Quarter
It's tough to build a street rod that looks good from every angle, particularly something as big as Joe Gonzalez's, but Richard Graves and Jeb Scolmann did it. Subtle details abound, like the rear bumper made from two '40 passenger bars welded together.
1939 Ford Coe Engine
Hiding under the seat that a Flathead once called home is a fuel-injected LS1 backed by a 4L60E. Jeb built the custom framework that encloses the engine and provides a base for the seat.
1939 Ford Coe Interior
We'll bet the guy who drove this COE when it was new would have paid dearly for a seat like this. Gabe Lopez was responsible for the dove and charcoal gray leather interior.
1939 Ford Coe Truck Bed
Simple aftermarket latches hold the modified '40 tailgate closed, and custom cables support it when open...
1939 Ford Coe Gas Cap
...Under the inlaid wood floor is an 18-gallon steel gas tank.
1939 Ford Coe Dashboard
The center of the dashboard features an extension panel to hold the ignition and light switches and a pair of outlets for the Old Air Products cooler. Note the addition of a '35 Ford passenger-car ashtray. It was added just because it looks cool.
1939 Ford Coe Taillight
Even the taillights on this truck are works of art. Based on custom versions of '36 Ford passenger-car stands, the lights are '50 Pontiac reproductions.
1939 Ford Coe Side View
Holding up the rear of the truck are four 16-inch Ultra Wheels wrapped in Mastercraft 235/60R16 tires. The Chevy dually rearend is equipped with 3.73:1 gears.
