New From Artist Bob BondBob Bond's Artistry and AutoArt Magazine are proud to introduce their new Custom CarArt Mailbox. Over the years many readers have customized their envelopes when they have sent them in, so AutoArt thought it only fitting to have a mail receptacle suitable to receive their creations. The box is constructed of a large metal mailbox and MDO plywood. It was custom painted and airbrushed to resemble an early panel delivery street rod sitting on a rock pedestal and has reflective lettering for easy viewing at night. If you're ever in or near the Lee's Summit, Missouri, area, stop by and check it out. If you'd like your own personalized mailbox custom built for you or your business, Bob says he can make any type of vehicle into a Custom Art Mailbox. For more information, call (800) BOB BOND (262-2663) or (816) 554-1800; or visit www.bobbondart.com or www.autoartmagazine.com.
Mcclung Named To Museum BoardLook around the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum (presented by the Automobile Club of Southern California) and Dick McClung is everywhere. He has donated race helmets, Indy 500 badges, and other artifacts, along with several sizeable cash contributions. Now McClung's presence will be felt even more: He has been elected to the museum's board of directors. NHRA founder and Museum Board Chairman Wally Parks made the announcement during the June 7 Twilight Cruise Night.
"We are lucky to have a guy like Dick McClung on the museum board," said Parks. "Besides being a former racer and successful businessman, Dick has been a true friend to the museum for many years. His insights will help take the museum to a new level."
McClung, of Rancho Mirage, California, joins Parks, Peter Clifford, Dick Wells, Steve Gibbs, Gary Darcy, and Alex Xydias as board members. "It's an honor to serve on the museum board," McClung said. "I'm very passionate about the museum because it preserves our racing heritage. I look forward to continuing its legacy."
McClung is all about racing, history, and passion. He raced on dirt tracks back in the late 1940s after serving in WWII with the Merchant Marine. He was seriously injured in a racing accident after his roadster flipped a reported 17 times in 1948, but came back and had prosperous careers in the California Roadster Association and California Hot Rods.
Named for the founder of the National Hot Rod Association, the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum presented by the Automobile Club of Southern California houses the very roots of hot rodding. Scores of famous vehicles spanning American motorsports history are on display, including winning cars representing 50 years of drag racing, dry lakes, and salt flat racers, oval track challengers, and exhibits describing their colorful backgrounds.
