Feature Film Captures The CultureThis summer saw the long awaited release of the documentary film "Hot Rod Round Up." Critically acclaimed by both the hot rod community and filmmakers alike, Paul Wright's film is destined to become a cult classic. "Hot Rod Round Up" takes one on a journey into the culture of old-school hot rodding. As a lifelong hot rodder, Paul gives an insider's view into the culture of hardcore enthusiasts who build cars in their home shops using imagination, ingenuity, wit, and elbow grease. "This film gets to the core of the culture; it shows their passion for hot rods, music, and the whole retro lifestyle."
Filmed in California and Texas, "HRRU" follows a group of both Californian and Texan hot rodders from the Kennedy Brothers shop in Pomona, California, to Austin, Texas, for the country's premier old-school hot rod show-the Kontinentals' Lonestar Rod & Kustom Roundup-for some hardcore cruising on South Congress Avenue to show day at the park.
The film chronicles the fact that these cars are by no means trailer queens, but are driven daily and even raced on occasion. The film features some really great interviews, and unlike many of today's TV shows that have succeeded in dumbing down the hobby, Paul Wright's chronicles show rodders as creative and intelligent people with a true love of a simpler time and a great respect for automotive history.
