Big is in these days. From giant SUVs to super-sized meals at the local burger joint, bigger is deemed better. But, take it from a guy whose only hope of ever reaching 6 foot is by standing on a chair-it ain't true. Take Wayne Godbey's diminutive '26 T for example. Sure, its looks are pure hot rod, but its small size, fully enclosed and less-than-spacious engine bay, and kid-sized kickstand belie the fact that it's powered by a 3,000hp V-12 Allison aircraft engine ... OK, it's not really, but I bet I had ya goin' for a minute there.
Actually, Wayne's '26 is powered by a banger, but that doesn't mean he's given up any seat-of-the-pants power because of his engine choice. Nope, this hot little roadster packs quite a wallop-350 hp worth of wallop, at that. That's because he decided that if he was going to power his T with a four-cylinder, it was going be one with some guts. To this end, he chose a turbocharged, intercooled, 140-cube Thunderbird motor backed by a Tremec five-speed.
As you can plainly see, Wayne's '26 is right on the money in the looks department. Suede black paint, Moon discs, and a lakes racer-inspired cockpit all come together to perpetuate the true traditional hot rod look. So spend a couple of minutes checking out the photos here and then keep your eyes open while you're enjoying the event season because this is one you've just got to see in person to really appreciate.
Here's the heart of this white-knuckle ride-a turbocharged, intercooled, 350hp four-banger that's surprised more than one V-8 owner, we're sure. | The roadster's cockpit is cool as well. A three-spoke Lobeck wheel, S&W gauges, dropped floorboards, and a mixture of upholstery and aluminum just plain work well together. | The aluminum plate flooring in the bobbed bed mirrors that in the cockpit, and an original T fuel tank and the pickup's battery share a home there as well. |
