Mercury's passenger-car quarter-panels and taillights for 1955 and '56 differ radically from Ford's. Instead of designing an entirely different quarter-panel and taillight for its limited-production wagon models, Mercury simply used the Ford's flanks and distinguished them with these taillights.

Bud told us people tried to talk him into a big-block something or other, but we're stoked he kept the Y-block. These engines are hallmarks of these cars, much like the small-block Chevy was to the company's '55-57 models. This one wears a dual-four manifold from an E-code Thunderbird, but this one sports Carters in lieu of the temperamental Holleys.

Since the Victoria was the high-water mark for the Fairlane and Customline trim series, Ford equipped most of them with power-assist steering. Not needing the leverage of the oversize stock wheel, Bud swapped it out for a 15 1/2-inch Budnik Saturn. Since he relocated the shifter to the console, he removed the shift mechanism from the colume.
