The online voting has been done, the votes have been counted, and, from 100 vehicles and five finalists, one car has been selected as the 2009 Turtle Wax/STREET RODDER Street Rod of the Year.

When he turned 50, David Douglas and his wife Sandy decided that the perfect birthday gift was a '35 Chevy coupe. He located an all-steel stocker in Pennsylvania, where the owner had spent 20 years not building it. After buying it and tearing it apart, David contacted Marcel's Custom Metal Shaping. We were there when Marcel De Ley did the 2 1/4-inch chop, and showed it in the September and October 2007 issues of STREET RODDER.

Roger Burman at Lakeside Rods & Rides handled the assembly and shot the Viper red paint. Under the hood, a ZZ4 Chevy small-block features an Edelbrock carb and intake, and HPC headers and Hushpower mufflers. The 700R4 transmission delivers torque to a Ford 9-inch. A Heidt's IFS system was added in front. Wilwood disc brakes stop the 17- and 18-inch Billet Specialties rims and Michelin radials. The interior features VDO gauges with Vintage Air controls below. Dan Weber Custom Interiors covered I.S.S. buckets in Ultraleather.

The three-year build was completed by the end of 2008. At the 2009 Goodguys Nostalgia Nats in Bowling Green, we added the Chevy to our Top 100 list. STREET RODDER readers did the rest.
