Nothing says hot rod like...
Nothing says hot rod like a '54 Dodge Red Ram Hemi nailed to the 'rails. The 241ci V-8 was treated to Ross slugs, a Clay Smith stick, Manly valves, and MSD for spark. Topped with the factory intake and Rochester 2GC carb, power gets transferred through a five-speed box. The copper plumbing and vintage fire extinguisher radiator overflow tank are just plain neat.
After studying the Dearborn Deuce new steel, Jim decided it would only need a few tweaks to get it to the level he wanted. He installed a factory-styled Ford cowl vent and followed by having Louvers Unlimited, of Craryville, New York, louver the trunk lid giving the car distinct lakes feel while a custom fabricated front grille guard and rear pushbar seal the deal. After completing all of the body prep, Jim contacted the Kustom Shop in San Diego, California, for plenty of their blue pearlescent vibe to coat the body. With everything ready in the spray booth, Jim pulled the trigger on the gun and didn't stop until the body and chassis were glistening.
Once the assembly was completed, he laid out plans for the bare bones interior, which included a stock dash filled with a combination of Stewart Warner and Auto Meter gauges, '39 Ford steering wheel, and Hurst shifter. Seating came by way of a chopped-down minivan bench covered with dense foam and topped with an Indian blanket. With two round trips from New York to Bonneville under its belt, along with thousands of trouble-free miles canvassing events all over the country, Jim's Deuce has definitely earned his respect, proving that a traditionally built car can hold its own on the long haul.
