Low and behold, the Kelly Brown 1927 Ford Track-T is at the 2013 SEMA Show. This year we got a chance to get a look at the show before it officially opened and we stumbled across America's Most Beautiful Roadster. At the 2013 Grand National Roadster Show, this Track-T won the coveted America's Most Beautiful Roadster award. Built at Roy Brizio Street Rods in South San Francisco, California the highboy is something to be taken aback.
The project was originally started by Kelly Brown as a quarter-mile car and it eventually saw the hands of Steve Davis, Pete Eastwood, Kent Fuller, and Pete Chapouris. John Mumford is the owner of this roadster and overtime he collected enough parts together to have this assembled (which took 18 months). The '27 stayed true to it's style and was not overbuilt. The wheels capture the elegance of the original 16x5 wheels with Ford caps. The custom maroon PPG Paint was done by Darryl Hollenbeck of Vintage Color Studio, keeping the car looking simple.
What really sets this roadster apart from the rest is its extremely rare Ardun heads. Supposedly, Zora Arkus-Duntov only made eight of these heads in 1932. The 136ci V-8/60 engine was machined and assembled by Howard Allen of Monrovia, California. The engine bored out to 3.2-inches and has a 2.6-inch stroke putting out 100 hp and 94-lbs of torque. While we know that isn't the most powerful V-8, we do know that the car was given a modern touch. The engine was given an Isky cam, four Stromberg 97 carburetors, Mallory electronic ignition, Powermaster alternator, and a custom exhaust system utilizing Borla mufflers.
A Hot Rod Works Halibrand quick-change is outfitted with 4.11 gears and 31 spline axles. Pete and Jake's Hot Rod Parts tube shocks and a transverse leaf spring help get the power to the pavement. Up front SO-CAL Speed Shop Tube shocks were used along with split wishbones from Speedway Motors. Kinmont disc brakes give this car the stopping power it needs.
The interior features refurbished Warner-Stewart gauges that are put in a custom dashboard. The steering wheel is a custom three-spoke that was fabricated by Sam Davis. The all-leather seats were crafted at Sid Chavers Upholstery and have twin-base pads.
It was amazing to see this thing up close and personal at the 2013 SEMA Show and everyone involved in the build did an incredible job.
