Bill Smith stands with what he refers to as “my Picasso:” a T engine with a Roberts Marine single overhead cam cylinder head. Jim Schuman, the museum’s first curator, restored it. It’s easy to understand why it’s Smith’s favorite: it’s beautiful. Thomas converted a lot of T, A, and B engines, but most retained plank heads. The overhead cam design with the attendant inspection covers and Thomas-specific Atlas water pump make this exceptional even by museum standards.
