Alamo, CA-Ron Whiteside had a weekend to remember at the Goodguys/K&N Filters 17th MGD West Coast Nationals presented by Texaco Havoline, August 22-24 at the Alameda County Fairgrounds. For months, the Scottsdale, AZ based rodder had been waiting to show off his royally constructed 1934 Ford Coupe. As soon as the 2003 Ridler & Street Rod d 'Elegance winner rolled into the picturesque Pleasanton fairgrounds, jaws dropped and everyone instantly knew this was one special street rod. Whiteside entered the car in the Goodguys/Texaco Havoline America's Most Beautiful Street Rod corral on Saturday resulting in an easy top 5 finalist bid.
The real fun started on Saturday evening as all five finalists were lined up in front of a huge crowd where Goodguys president and founder, Gary Meadors, announced Whiteside's '34 Ford as the winner. As he made his way to the stage to accept the Sterling loving cup trophy and the $1,000 cash award, Whiteside was visibly emotional and busted out with a loud "YES" with his arms held high. Whiteside has owned the fabulous '34 Ford for over 37 years-transforming it from a drag race car to the incredible automotive creation it is today.
The other four contenders for the America's Most Beautiful Street Rod Award were as follows: Bob and Wes Rydell and their 1935 Chevy, Al Von Der Worth and his 1932 Ford, Ralph Arias and his 1932 Ford Roadster and Craig and Synthia Lang's 1937 Ford Convertible.
Ron Whiteside's America's Most Beautiful Street Rod will be featured in a full-color feature in the Goodguys Goodtimes Gazette as well as the 2004 Goodguys Yearbook.
