Meguiar's Mixes A New Committee
Seven new automotive journalists will join the Meguiar's Award Selection Committee this year. The committee determines the Person of the Year for the Collector Car Hobby. The award honors individuals whose contributions have significantly impacted the rapidly expanding collector car hobby.
The 2004 Meguiar's Award Selection Committee, led by Chairman Ken Gross, includes a cross-section of auto writers, editors, and publishers from various media outlets from automotive magazines to online publications.
"This year we have decided to create three-year terms for each committee member with seven of our 21 editors rotating off each year," Gross said. "This will allow new journalists the opportunity to become a member and will create the dynamic of always having 14 experienced voices and seven new ones each year."
The Meguiar's Award nominees are evaluated by the panel of judges on their contributions to the growth, quality, visibility, and respectability of the hobby, their assistance with legislation affecting the hobby, and their community involvement.
"We feel it is important to acknowledge and reward those individuals who have made long-standing constructive contributions and have had a positive impact on the ever-growing collector car hobby," said Meguiar's President and CEO Barry Meguiar. "The 2004 award recipient will join the impressive list of winners who have helped shape and ensure the future of the hobby for generations to come."
This year's recipient will be honored at a gala event on June 19, 2004 at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, the new home of the Oscars. Nearly 2,500 people attended last year's event at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion at The Music Center. That lucky group even witnessed a live performance by The Beach Boys.
