Hot Rods Get 'Driven Dirty' on the Road to SEMA

When most cars roll onto the floor at the SEMA show, they are washed, waxed, detailed, and constantly dusted. This year, a group of renegade hot rodders has set out to celebrate the grit and grime of hot rodding with POSIES Driven Dirty Tour.

Five prominent members of the hot rod community and top automotive aftermarket manufacturers have each built a custom hotrod which they will drive across country from Hamilton, OH to Las Vegas, NV, October 24 through October 31.

Drivers include POSIES (POSIES Rods and Customs), Scott Whitaker (Dynamat), Corky Coker (Coker Tire), Kenny and Ray Gollahon (Brookville Roadster), Mike Goodman (Honest Charley) and Steve Moal (Moal Coachbuilders). Also tagging along for the ride will be renowned automotive journalist Ken Gross; Street Rodder Magazine Editor Brian Brennan; and Powermaster's Eric Edleman.

The tour the hits the road at the Dynamat Headquarters in Hamilton, OH on October 24 with stops over the following five days including St. Louis, MO; Afton, OK; Amarillo, TX; Albuquerque, NM; Winslow, AZ, and the Grand Canyon. The trip concludes in Las Vegas where the guys will roll their "driven" and "dirty" rides onto the SEMA show floor "as is" - road worn and weathered from their 2000 mile trek.

With the exception of POSIES, the rest of the crew will be driving custom '32 Ford Roadsters, all built from all-steel Brookville bodies. The always intriguing POSIES once again chose to make a unique statement with his custom '47 Fleetliner, an almost indescribable creation built from a '47 Chevy skinnied up to resemble a late 1930's Eurostyle racer.

Whitaker will be rolling in a whole version of the half car that has been turning heads in the hot rod world since it debuted at SEMA in 2005, last year, Whitaker and crew fashioned half a '32 roadster to showcase his Dynamat family of products. This year, the Brookville Dynaliner has come full circle as a complete Lakestyle Coupe.

The idea for the Driven Dirty Tour was hatched by the group at the 2005 SEMA show and is meant to revive the spirit of running hard and fast, said POSIES.

"Cars are meant to be driven. We wanted to show that you can build real hot rods that you can drive and enjoy on the road, not just on the show floor," said POSIES.

The group also wanted to showcase the durability and quality of their products and have some fun along the way, said Scott Whitaker, CEO of Dynamat.

"This tour is all about building real hot rods and driving them hard," said Whitaker. "This is a great group of innovative guys who truly embody the spirit of hot rodding. It should be fun."

You can see all the cars October 31 through November 4, 2006 at the SEMA Show in manufactures booths in Hot Rod Alley, in the North Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center.
