Pleasanton, CA - Kevin and Karen Alstott's sleek 1935 Ford roadster has done it again! The car won its fourth major national award in the last 18 months being named Goodguys Texaco/Havoline America's Most Beautiful Street Rod for 2007 at the Goodguys 21st West Coast Nationals in Pleasanton. In 2006, the car won the coveted Ridler award at the Detroit Autorama, and then followed with the title of America's Most Beautiful Roadster at this year's Grand National Roadster Show in Pomona, CA. With the Street Rod d'Elegance crown at Goodguys Del Mar this spring and the America's Most Beautiful Street Rod crown it becomes only the second car in hot rod history to bag all four awards in succession. The only other car to complete the Detroit-Pomona-Del Mar-Pleasanton superfecta was Ken Reister's Foose-built 1936 Ford "Impression."
Built by Midwest craftsman Roger Burman and his crew at Lakeside Rods & Rides, the Alstott's '35 Ford is a stunning, contemporary all steel roadster. In fact, Marcel DeLay, who was inducted into the GNRS Hall of Fame this year, hand crafted the body on the roadster.
The roadster features countless modifications including a stretched wheelbase, two-tone PPG paint (shades of light and dark copper), S.A.C. 'rails, custom one-off wheels, 20 x 10 and 17 x 7, a 408-inch Donovan engine (with an amazing tig-welded and chrome plated intake manifold), Tremec 6-speed tranny with SST exhaust and Sanderson headers. The Indy- style suspension was developed by the gang at Lakeside.
Alstott, who hails from Ft. Dodge, Iowa is a lover of 1935 Fords, especially roadsters. Both he and Burman had a blast last year participating in the Goodguys Hot Rod of the Year competition thrashing around in a Burman-built fenderless '35. That same car also landed in the top five at this year's West Coast Nationals.
"We really built this car for ourselves and not with all this in mind," said the humbled car owner. "We thought it would do O.K. but couldn't have ever imagined all this."
