Builder's Delight
Speedway Motors has a Model A Rat Rod frame featuring fabricated framerails sweeping front kickups while a '32 Ford front crossmember, lightened shock mounts and a Vega steering box mount make a simple installation. Triangulated ladder bars are designed to position the rear axle above the 'rails to keep the rear low; accepts a '40 Ford leaf spring, which can be mounted in one of three different positions to fine-tune your ride height. Even the small-block Chevy engine and TH350 transmission mounts are engineered to provide optimum ground clearance by positioning the engine oil pan even with the bottom of the frame. The Model A Rat Rod frame is designed to provide 4-1/2 inches of ground clearance with a 24-inch-tall front tire and 30-inch-tall rear tire. A hanging-style brake pedal is recommended due to the frame's extra-low ride height.

Deep Breathing
The Edelbrock RPM Xtreme cylinder heads (cast at their private foundry, hand assembled, carry a one year warranty, and sold complete with valves, springs, and guides pre-installed) for 427- to 572-cid big-block Chevys are now available. These heads provide nearly the race level of performance of the Victor series head in a streetable design and an easy bolt-on upgrade.
The deck has been rolled 1-1/2 degrees to improve the intake valve angle and consequently port velocity, while ensuring exhaust valves will still clear the factory valve reliefs. The exhaust flange has been raised less than 1/8 inch to improve flow around the short turn without causing conflicts with off-the-shelf 2-inch primary tube headers designed to work with stock heads.
The rectangular port heads are even available with a larger 118cc chamber to support forced-induction and pump-gas friendly compression ratios.
Rectangle port RPM XT heads (PN 51559) testing on a 555ci big-block Chevy with 10.0:1 compression, hydraulic roller camshaft [248/256 degrees of duration at 0.050] and Edelbrock RPM XT EFI system produced 697 hp and 643 lb-ft of torque.
