Tri Five Chevy Drag Racing Popular Event at Lone Star '29' HELD IN 2006, BROUGHT BACK DUE TO POPULAR DEMAND!
The '55-'57 Chevys are legends of the drag strip! And at Lone Star '29' we are bringing those legends to the track for a real 'SHOEBOX SHOOTOUT'!
In the mid and late 50's, the 'Tri Five' Chevys were king of the strip, able to outrun just about anything Detroit could offer. Later into the 60's, the '55-'57 Chevy's dominated the NHRA Junior Stock and Gasser classes from coast to coast. This heritage will be on display Friday night at Lone Star '29' when participants will get their Chevys on the strip and burn some rubber!
Just a short drive 35 minute drive north from the Sheraton Grand DFW Hotel to Denton's North Star Dragway, this NHRA sanctioned 1/8 mile drag strip will again be the site of the Lone Star Drags, just as it was in 2006.
ALL REGISTERED PARTICIPANTS OF LONE STAR '29' WILL BE ALLOWED FREE ADMISSION TO THE TRACK AND FREE RACING! All 'Tri Five' Chevys will need to display their event registration card on the windshield, and along with the tickets that will be included in the goodie bag along with your Lone Star name badge, you will get in free and will be allowed to race for free!
A caravan will head out of the hotel parking lot at 7:30 Friday Night heading towards the track and once everyone is inside the program will get underway. Each car will be allowed at least two time trial runs, where you will line up and run heads up just for practice. Once those runs are complete then we will move into eliminations.
There will be two classes, one for street cars that run slower than full race cars, and then a faster class for the more racier cars that will be at Lone Star. There will be host club members available to assist if you need instructions on how to race, how to line up etc. This is open to ALL Lone Star '29' participants and ONLY Lone Star '29' participants. Whether you are a regular racer or this is your first time, you will have a equal chance to race and win in eliminations.
During eliminations, each car will have a 'dial in' or estimate of how quick the car will run the 1/8 mile. This dial in will be imputed into the track timing system and compared to the opponents 'dial in'. From that a head start will be given to the slower car. First one to the finish line that does not go QUICKER than their dial in wins, assuming you leave on the GREEN light!
This part of Lone Star is ALOT of fun! You do not have to drive your car hard, the key to winning is running consistent and as close to your dial in as possible without going quicker! So plan to bring your Chevy to the drags, and don't worry about the cops - you can speed here legally! Lone Star 'Blast From The Past'
1983 in Austin, Texas this Lone Star 'thing' all got started!
50 Tri Five Chevys attended Lone Star I in 1983 and for those who were there, what a special event it was. Anytime you can be in on the ground floor of any tradition that last for 30 years, you know it is special. In the photo, you can see just one of the '55-'57 Chevys that came together at the downtown Villa Capri Hotel where the Central Texas Classic Chevy Club hosted the first event.
Next year for Lone Star XXX, the Central Texas Classic Chevy Club will once again play host to this event at the milestone marker of 30 years. President Dan Bowen and all the Austin club members are working diligently towards making the 2012 event a specail one. Make plans to attend Lone Star XXX in 2012! And who knows how many in 2042 will be able to say, I WAS THERE FOR LONE STAR XXX!
