Here's the finished Ed Pink Racing Engines/SEMA Scholarship Project engine prior to being shipped to the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, where it will be on display in the Grand Lobby.
Ed Pink and the crew at Ed Pink Racing Engines in Van Nuys, CA have finished building and testing a unique small block Ford engine that will be auctioned on eBay beginning Tuesday, November 1 and concluding on the 11th. Proceeds from the sale of the engine will benefit the SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund, which provides assistance to students pursuing a career in the automotive industry. The engine, which exclusively uses parts manufactured by SEMA member companies, is based on a Dart SHP 302 SB iron block and topped with Dart Pro1 aluminum heads. Other major components include a Scat forged steel crank (3.250" stroke) and H-beam rods, Mahle pistons (4.125" bore), Total Seal rings, a hydraulic roller cam and lifters form Comp Cams, Manley stainless steel valves and pushrods, an Edelbrock intake manifold and carburetor, Crane Cams Ignition distributor, coil and ignition box, ATI Super Damper, Hedman Hedders, Milodon oil pan, Powermaster alternator and starter, with ARP fasteners used throughout.
Dyno tests showed the 347 c.i.d. engine to produce 404 horsepower at 5900 RPM and 403 ft. lbs. of torque at 4100 RPM. In reviewing the data, industry icon Ed "The Old Master" Pink said, "This is a strong, reliable engine that will provide someone with a lot of fun. What's really impressive is the engine's torque curve. It's almost flat for over two thousand RPM. It will be great for someone with a Mustang, street rod, Cobra kit car and other applications. This engineshould get good fuel economy, too."
