The Hot Wheels Twin Mills came in 12 different Spectra-Flame colors, which was a process of coating a polished metal body with candy paint. Here, we see a red 1/64 Twin Mill next to a 1/24-scale Legends Twin Mill. Also available in a Legends to Life version on a stand that makes engine noises and car movement, the larger version was used to scale up the real car.

Ira Gilford's design holds up pretty well after 33 years. Although it has been driven on the street, vision from that low cockpit, around what Mattel's Carson Lev calls "rural mailbox scoops," must be pretty limited.

New engines had to be installed after the car sat in the weather, so they chose GM Performance Parts 502 big-blocks. Each is topped with Mooneyham 8-71 blowers and dual Edelbrock 650-cfm four barrels. Transfer plates from a tractor puller measuring 1 1/2 inches mate the two engines, which use planetary gears and a single 36hp helicopter starter.

The speedometer has an early-Corvette look to it complete with a Hot Wheels logo and the name Twin Mill. Keep looking and you will see that it goes to 200 mph (make sure to notice the red lettering used to denote top speed).

The interior was a collaboration between Steve Greninger and Chip Foose, done in '60s-era white pearl and black Naugahyde.

Look closely at the center cap on the five-spoke Americans and you will notice they're outfitted with the Hot Wheels logo.

Circa-'95 is the Twin Mill chassis resting nicely at Hot Rod's by Boyd (then in Stanton, CA). Check out the Carrera coilover shocks, Magnum axle, Flaming River steering system, and obligatory twin GMPP big-block Chevys. (Photo by Rob Fortier)
