"If you see me comin' better step aside..." This '32 coupe's killer proportions are a result of a clever and subtle set of cuts. The top was chopped some 5 inches in front, and 4 1/4 inches in the rear. The result is unforgettable. As a friend of Busby's said, "Jim, that car is great; you look like you're headed for a fight."

Buzz's talented son David--who built motors for Kenny Bernstein--rebuilt the 331-cid '55 Cad. It was re-bored .030-over and runs a Chet Herbert full race cam, Herbert solid lifters, and McGurk adjustable rockers. The valve covers were modified at Busby's with 16 individually made blisters to clear the high-lift rockers. The heads were ported and polished as well. Inside, the crankshaft was micro-polished and reground to standard size.

That's a Weiand six-carb manifold with six rebuilt 97s fitted with Scott flared tops. Bitchin' Belond three-into-one headers are an integral part of this car's classic good looks. Mufflers are Smithy glasspacks and the tailpipes exit along the framerails. The Cad block was painted a bright shade of red in contrast to the jet-black interior and exterior. You can't say "period perfect" unless you're running a generator.

Eat your hearts out three-window coupe fans. This five's got the look. Built from an old Altered, this coupe's got a righteous chop, filled roof, and big rear rubber. You can't miss those not-so-subtle rumbles from the six-carb Cad engine; Busby's hard-hammered '32 underscores the hot in hot rod. Check out the neat antenna on the upper deck panel. It's the way we were...

The interior features tuck 'n' roll black 'Hydes with red piping, black wool carpets, and a Bell 17-inch four-spoke steering wheel with an aluminum column drop. Plated garnish moldings are another great period touch.

Understated black tuck 'n' roll, double-stitched Naugahyde interior, with its cool red piping, was the fine work of Van Butler.

Keeping the "real, not repop" theme, there's an engine-turned dash insert with a mixed quartet of old 2 5/8 convex-lensed and smaller SWs. The piece de resistance is a 6-inch, "official" Stewart-Warner police-clocking speedometer, positioned smartly in the center. You'll know exactly how fast you're going when you get that citation.

Buick finned drums, dropped, drilled, and filled early beam axle, Ford cross steering, plenty of plating...in the '50s we'd have said, "Finest Kind."

Check out this rare, period accessory. It's a plated U-shaped bracket that bolts to the front axle. It prevents side-to-side sway and bumpsteer, but still permits vertical movement. Anybody out there know who made these?

Classic blackwall Firestones from Coker Tire, with tall 7.50-16s on Lincoln rims, wear '47 Mercury deep-dish caps and matching trim rings. There's no better combination for an early '50s-style highboy.
