Back in 1986, when men were men and the Oakland Roadster Show was still in Oakland, Jim and Florine McNamara's Mere Image roadster took home the big trophy. Also shown is James Ells' Roy Brizio-built Deuce roadster, which was in competition for the World's Most Beautiful Roadster title, as well as the scratch-built California Star, which won two years prior.
(1) When Tom Rath was not working on and driving the 15ft Bigfoot monster truck, he was turning wrenches on this '37 Ford Tudor.
(2) Tom Walsh wanted to build something a little different when it came time for his latest street rod project. He ended up with a '34 Ford Fordor phaeton that was imported from Australia, one of few countries to have actually produced such a car.
(3) Another rare Australian bird was Ron Daw's Aussie-based '35 Chevy Tourer. Ron traded in his '29 Tourer back in the late '60s for the later '35 and has since installed a Chevy Blue Flame Six with an Offy Tri-power intake, backed by a Powerglide trans.
(4) Ermie Immerso built a new car back in '86 that was a throwback to the '50s, but with a few modern conveyances. Flathead-powered, traditional suspension components, and a '50s-style interior clash with the Vega steering and radial tires to give the car the ultimate in style and performance.
