The Road Tour began in 1996 with a Lobeck-built '33 full-fendered three-window coupe. The Redneck body sat on Just-A-Hobby rails powered by a Summit Racing 350 Chevy. The car was a rocket ship that fit me like a racing glove!

The second Road Tour season coincided with the Silver Anniversary of SRM. We felt that there would be no better tribute to our late founder, Tom McMullen, than to re-create his incredibly famous roadster.

Again Lobeck-built, the McMullen roadster clone's Wescott's body was powered by a blown P.A.W. small-block Chevy. The highlight of the summer was a stop at the Bonneville Salt Flats for Speed Week. Talking with Bob Pierson of the Pierson Brothers coupe fame about the McMullen roadster created an incredible blending of two eras of rodding heritage.

The Road Tour has taken me to many beautiful places over the years. None can compare to the drive that I took through the Redwood Forest area in Northern California. The majestic sequoias really put things into perspective!

With the significance of the year 2000, we decided to take street rodding into the next millenium with a state-of-the-art version of Tom McMullen's famous roadster. As in 1996 and 1997, Lobeck's was chosen to construct the M2000.

The McMullen look was there with the signature flames (heated up for 2000), its black Downs Manufacturing Deuce body, and, of course, the Moon tank up front. The rest of the roadster was strictly next millenium technology with a Heidt's independent front and rear suspension, a Holley fuel-injected 383 Chevy engine, and even a global satellite tracking system!

For 2001 we have decided to take the traditional route to build our ride for the season. We found a very solid, restored '36 Chevy two-door sedan in Georgia. We then set out to turn it into a reasonably priced, fun to drive and great to look at street rod.

We enlisted the help of the folks at Fatman Fabrications in Charlotte, NC, for the installation of the P.A.W. 350 motor and the completion of the Back to the Basics beauty. The finishing touches are added by Wade Hughes in Cincinnati as he applies a dose of Ohio flames to the sedan.
