After two weeks at home in Ohio it was time for 2003 PPG Street Rodder Road Tour pilot Jerry Dixey to head west to Pueblo, Colorado the site of the NSRA Rocky Mountain Nationals.
After a day of driving across Ohio, Indiana and Illinois, Jerry spent Monday evening in St. Charles, Missouri on the banks of the Missouri River just west of St. Louis. Up early on Tuesday, a visit was made to Pete and Jakes Hot Rod Parts in Peculiar, Missouri. Pete and Jakes were the supplier of this years Road Tour chassis. Greeted by Jerry and Jason Slover everyone at Pete and Jake's agreed that the 2003 Road Tour roadster had turned out great. By 2:00 p.m. Jerry rolled west across Kansas and after battling high winds and heat, landed in Abilene, Kansas for the evening.
Wednesday's goal was Pueblo and the shortest route was off I-70 and across eastern Colorado on some two-lane highways. It was a great day to drive with the winds calm and the sky bright blue. After a brief stop at a great old junkyard and some shopping in Colorado Springs, Jerry arrived in Pueblo at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening.
The weather in Pueblo was hot but dry. With 1951 registered street rods and good weather, it was a fun weekend at the NSRA Rocky Mountain Nationals.
After Sunday's awards it was back home to Ohio for the 4th of July weekend. Then on to Milwaukee for the PGA Milwaukee Open golf tournament's first for the Road Tour, bringing the street rod hobby to the golfing set will be very interesting. Watch for the Rocky Mountain Nationals coverage in the November 2003 issue of Street Rodder. Check out our golf experience here in two weeks at www.streetrodderweb.com.
