We're getting ahead of our story, but Randy Clark and the HR&CS crew are caught in action here dropping our newly-painted Brookville steel roadster body on the finished Deuce Steel chassis.

The Brookville firewall was cut at the bottom to clear the bellhousing, then HR&CS fabricated all the sheetmetal parts to make the combined floorboards and transmission tunnel you see here. It's now one-piece and almost too nice to carpet over!

Because our Deuce is a low-ridin' example of the highboy breed, a bump-up had to be formed of sheetmetal and welded onto the floor to provide extra clearance for the center housing of our Currie rearend.

Would you believe we're going to have two '32 dashes? These two tubes stiffen the cowl area and help mount the two dashes, the steering column, and other components.

The main dash mounts to the body as normal and will carry the Dakota Digital instrument cluster, while the second dash mounts the Vintage Air heat/AC panel and outlets, plus provides cover for the components mounted to the inside of the firewall.

This may look just like a three-piece hood, but it's made of posterboard as patterns for the steel hood parts. Several layers of posterboard were glued up to make the panels stiff enough.

Now equipped with a real hood (steel this time) the Deuce body starts to take on its classic shape. The sides were later punched with louvers along the bottom, in a curved line to match the framerails.

When welded into the panel below the decklid, these handformed "buckets" recess the lights and provide a subtle lip around the lights. HR&CS may have these for sale soon.

Another custom touch added to the 2004 Tour car is a pair of these hand-hammered aluminum body corners that fill up the corners near the gas tank, like a roll pan with a gas tank in the middle.

After many hours of blocking and priming, the body parts were given a coat of PPG's NCP 1990 sealer in the big spray booth at the HR&CS body shop. That was followed by final coatings of PPG Giallo Yellow (DBC 84902-SC) basecoat and later with several coats of PPG two-part clear.
