This year's official PPG Street Rodder Road Tour car, a head-turning '34 Chevy Coupe, lead the way across the USA in the eleventh annual Street Rodder Road Tour. Built by premiere hot rod and custom car designer Boyd Coddington and his Hot Rod Shop in La Habra, California, this outstanding vehicle lit up the way with an awesome coppery-orange paint color from PPG called "Lion's Mane." This dazzling color, specifically chosen for this year's vehicle, is part of the Radiance II line from the Vibrance Collection TM from PPG.
Street Rodder magazine's Road Tour concept was initiated eleven years ago, and for ten years PPG paint has been featured on these showcase cars. After ten successful years of touring in ten unique vehicles, this year's road tour included six week-long vacation tours that readers and enthusiasts participated in, traveling in their own vehicles.
The Vibrance Collection is PPG's brand of custom finishes that features hot colors, unique pigments and special-effect finishes. With this extensive offering, there is no better way to ensure a show-stopping appearance.
To help technicians and custom finishers utilize these unique finishes to their maximum potential, PPG offers a series of custom painting training courses at PPG training centers across North America. PPG's Vibrance Collection Products Course teaches technicians the basic rules of custom painting and how to select the right products for a job from primers to clears. The course covers instruction on the Vibrance Collection color pallette and how to use special effects pigments, candy dyes and tints to create custom colors. Instruction also includes tips on how to use a mid-coat clear to successfully layer coats of Vibrance Collection colors for exciting effects.
Painters having completed the Vibrance Collection Products Course can then take advantage of an exciting set of courses designed to elevate painting skills to the next level of creativity. Custom Graphics, Flames Design, Airbrush Techniques, Advanced Airbrush Techniques (including Real Fire or American Flag and Eagle classes) and Vibrance Collection Candy Apple Finishes are courses that deliver practical instructions on these very popular painting techniques.
"This year's Road Tour vehicle really shines," said Randy Cremeans, manager collision segment, PPG Automotive Refinish, North America. "PPG is proud to be a sponsor of the PPG Street Rodder Road Tour and we're thrilled with the results of the spectacular paint job on the official vehicle."
