The 2007 edition of the Street Rodder / PPG Road Tour is ready to head out on the first of seven weeklong vacation style Tours. The Total Performance Tour will begin with activities around the Daytona Beach area. On Saturday, May 12th the fun will include a big cruise on Canal Street in New Smyrna. On Sunday the Road Tourians will take a day cruise to the Don Garlits Drag Racing Museum in nearby Ocala. Sunday evening Total Performance and Classic Automobilia will host a cookout at Destination Daytona in Ormond Beach.
On Monday morning it will be time to head north up the coast. After lunch in St. Augustine and a visit to the Castillo de San Marcos national monument, we cruise into Hilton Head for the first night's stay. On Tuesday the Street Rods Unlimited club will greet us as they give us a tour of the Charleston, South Carolina area, including a visit to the newly opened American LaFrance Fire Museum. After our midday tour of Charleston wraps up we make the two-hour trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. It will be Bike Week in Myrtle Beach when we are in town so there should be plenty of things to see and do.
Wednesday we bid farewell to Myrtle Beach and travel further north to the historic Nags Head area of North Carolina on the Outer Banks. Thursday morning we will pay a visit to the birthplace of aviation as we stop at the Wright Brothers memorial. After a stop in Virginia Beach on Thursday afternoon for lunch we will cross the Chesapeake Bay bridge and tunnel and then travel on to Cruisin' Ocean City in Ocean City, Maryland. This event fills the beach community of Ocean City with thousands of street rods, customs, muscle and special interest vehicles for the entire weekend.
