 The narrow streets of Portsmouth...  The narrow streets of Portsmouth and the shops that line the downtown section give the town a real classic early New England feel. This submarine was the first of the streamlined design and set many speed records in the '50s. Originally built in Portsmouth, it's now permanently on display.  Our New England history lesson...  Our New England history lesson continued on Monday with a visit to the Strawbery Banke area of downtown Portsmouth. Saved from demolition in the late-'50s, this historic area shows what life was like at the bustling seaport more than a century ago.  From Portsmouth it's a one-hour...  From Portsmouth it's a one-hour drive to the New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon. We were greeted by track staff and given a tour of the facility, which is one of NASCAR's newest venues.  Lowrey's Auto Restoration...  Lowrey's Auto Restoration is located on the Lowrey farm. The facility is immaculate and the layout is unique for a hot rod and restoration business. It's a full-service build shop, complete with accommodations for painting and fabrication.  After checking in to the hotel...  After checking in to the hotel we drove to Lowrey's Auto Restoration in nearby Tilton, NH. We were greeted by Jim Lowrey Jr., his wife Robin and daughter Kim, and Jim Lowrey Sr. who started the business 50 years ago.  On Tuesday morning we took...  On Tuesday morning we took our group shot at the Tilt'n Diner. This classic restaurant is a real throw back to the '50s. The interior decor is loaded with nostalgic items from the period.  We stopped for lunch on the...  We stopped for lunch on the New Hampshire/Vermont border. The Quechee Gorge Village area is a collection of craft and antique shops, including a great diner where we enjoyed some good food in a very cool setting.  Owner Ken Schmidt and Keith...  Owner Ken Schmidt and Keith Cornell and the Rolling Bones crew rolled out the red carpet "Bones style" with great burgers on the grill and plenty of beverages to wash everything down.  After lunch we made our way...  After lunch we made our way across Vermont to Saratoga Springs, NY, for a visit at the Rolling Bones Hot Rod Shop. When we arrived about 3 p.m. the party was already in progress as almost 100 rods were there to greet us.  Wednesday morning as we got...  Wednesday morning as we got closer to Syracuse we stopped at Tucci Engineering in Marcy, NY, near Utica. Dave Tucci Sr. and Jr. and their crew have been producing award-winning rods and customs for many years. The Nomad is the latest-look for it in SRP magazine.  The '10 Syracuse Nationals...  The '10 Syracuse Nationals was huge. The New York State Fairgrounds was covered with participants and spectators. Great weather helped and the many exhibits on the grounds gave everyone plenty to look at over the three-day event.
