The body came by way of Steve's Auto Restoration and Experi-metal. The engine had to be reworked to fit between the rails of the '34 Replica. Which included the dual turbochargers being moved to the front of the block and the exhaust being custom made to exit the side of the car. The usual front wheel drive transversely mounted set up was scrapped and power is now sent to the rear wheels through a Tremec 5-speed manual and a Ford 9 inch rearend. The 400 horses and 400 lb-ft of torque is sure to get this old meets new, six banger Hot Rod moving in a hurry.

The proposal would provide incentives statewide for vehicles not currently eligible under the Consumer Assistance Program by removing the existing requirements that vehicles be subject to and fail Smog Check to participate. CARB is specifically targeting for scrappage pre-1976 vehicles that are not currently required to undergo Smock Check inspections. According to CARB, allowing vehicles that are not currently undergoing registration or that have passed their Smog Check to participate greatly expands the vehicle population that can be retired.

Participants would receive $1,000 per vehicle or $1,500 per vehicle if they meet low-income requirements. The proposal would also establish a pilot voucher program in the South Coast and San Joaquin Valley air basins that targets the highest-emitting vehicles and requires their replacement with newer, cleaner vehicles. The local air districts would work with the Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) to determine vehicle eligibility and low-income status. Once approved, the districts would provide the applicant a Letter of Eligibility from BAR and a redeemable voucher. Consumers would retire their vehicle at a participating dismantler, receiving an immediate compensation of $1,000 - $1,500 for vehicle retirement. Consumers could then redeem their voucher at participating car dealerships toward the purchase of a replacement vehicle. CARB is proposing that the voucher compensation be $2,000 or $2,500 per vehicle depending on income level. CARB will conduct a public hearing to consider adoption of the proposed Enhanced Fleet Modernization Program Regulation (Car Scrap).

DATE: June 25-26, 2009 TIME: 9:00 a.m.
PLACE: California Environmental Protection Agency Air Resources Board, Byron Sher Auditorium 1001 I Street Sacramento, California 95814
This item will be considered at a two-day meeting of the Board, which will commence at 9:00 a.m., June 25, 2009, and may continue at 8:30 a.m., on June 26, 2009.
This item may not be considered until June 26, 2009. But, when my pal Rob (Rob Fortier, editor of our sister publication Classic Trucks) and I crawled around hoisting the assembly into what would have been its approximate position we realized that it just wasn't gonna work. Well, I guess we could have made it work, but it would have involved modifications I'd rather not make to the left side rail and exhaust system.
After stepping back and partaking in a couple of ice-cold adult beverages we both concluded that what the pickup really needed was a cowl-exit side-steer setup. Case closed, problem solved. Unfortunately the answer, a Schroeder box, was -- actually is, way outa reach dollar-wise for me anyway. So I guess we didn't solve the problem after all.
That evening I sat down at my computer and logged on to the Web hoping to possibly find a solution -- or at least gather an idea or two. I typed “side steer” into my search engine, hit enter and waited to see what possible solutions magically appeared. After plowing through countless references to side-steering I finally found the perfect solution to my dilemma – a side-steer conversion kit offered by Gas Alley Streetrods back in Shawnee, Kansas. Rick Shelton, Gas Alley’s head cheese, came up with a really neat idea that he’s developed into an affordable setup which mates a few simple components to a reversed T-bucket style Corvair steering box – just what I was looking for!
Needless to say I ordered the Gas Alley Cowl Steering Adapter and will be installing it this weekend – tomorrow in fact. I’ll be chronicling the install and you’ll be able to see in detail what it is and how I went about the install in an upcoming issue of SR. In the meantime check out the kit at Rick’s Website, www.gasalleystreetrods.com its one of those “now why didn’t I think of that” products that just may be as great an answer to your problem as it was to mine!

The bill would also have required that funds generated through the additional inspection fees be deposited into an account which could then be used to scrap older cars. In an effort to sneak the bill through in the closing days of the legislative session, California Assemblyman Dave Jones amended a completely unrelated bill with the annual smog-check inspection language.

While pre-'76 motor vehicles would have remained exempt under existing California law, this proposal ignored the fact that vehicles 15 years old and older still constitute a small portion of the overall vehicle population and are a poor source from which to look for emissions reductions. This latest action represents the second time the SAN was able to defeat this legislation.

Special thanks to the countless enthusiasts and car clubs whose quick and powerful response to this harmful bill prevented it from moving forward.

Thanks to their stunning blue three- window coupe, they got their wish, taking home the AMBSR honors at a special award ceremony Saturday night, August 23rd.

Four years ago, Schott, a hot rodder since he was 18, commissioned the Way brothers to build his dream car, a’32 Ford three-window coupe. The project started with a rendering from Jimmy Smith (also of Phoenix) and a rare Dearborn Deuce coupe (one of only five ever made). A chassis from the late Boyd Coddington was then massaged and upgraded with inboard coil over suspension. Under the hood, the Ways installed a painted and polished LS-1 mated to a 4L60 transmission with cruise control. All engine and chassis components were then meticulously polished and chromed taking the coupe to the “next level”.

The body and paint duties were performed in house by the All Ways team. The body was massaged and prepped along with subtly fabricated modifications and additions such as the custom hood side “blisters” wrapped with stainless accents and a stainless wire mesh. The entire grille insert was fitted with matching stainless wire mesh. The paint chosen for the coupe is an electrifying House of Kolor mix called “Oriental Blue”.

The coupe’s Camel leather interior was stitched by Phoenix based Lux Interiors. Three on board cameras feed into an LED video screen in lieu of rearview and side view mirrors. A DVD player and surround sound stereo system is also featured. The polished billet wheels, 18’s in front and 20’s out back are one off designs also from the late Boyd Coddington.

The coupe, which Schott calls “My Girl”, has only been shown twice since being finished. It was a top five finalist for the Goodguys 2008 Street Rod d’Elegance earlier this spring in Del Mar before taking home all the marbles here in Pleasanton. It will be featured along with all other “Terrific 12” award winners at the season-ending Goodguys Southwest Nationals at Westworld of Scottsdale November 14-16.

The man is simply incapable of building something plain and ordinary. Anything he builds has even the most hardened pro builders scratching their heads in amazement.
Back in 2003, Lane and Poteet teamed up on another black ’32 Ford – a five window coupe that won the 2003 Street Rod of the Year title, also here in Columbus. For the record, this is the fourth car Lane has built for the Memphis businessman.
This particular collaboration with Lane started four years ago. The “Delivery Deluxe” took Lane two years and three months to complete. For starters, Lane, who works completely alone in his Iowa shop massaged and reshaped all four fenders, lengthened the body/with doors shortened 1.5 inches (do not try that at home!) and scratch built the chassis installing stainless steel rivets to attach all the cross members and motor mounts. The inside of the car is just as impressive as the outside, where Lane used a myriad of industrial metal and wood products and even went as far as installing seats adorned in Carhardt jacket fabric!
“It’s an unbelievable feeling to win this award with George” Lane said. “George has been the lifeblood of the street rod industry for many years. He’s single handedly kept rod shops alive with various projects over the years.”
The top 5 finalists for this year’s award included Joe Stuban (’32 Ford roadster), Poteet’s “Delivery Deluxe”, Mack & Shelley Bernd (’32 Ford Cabriolet), Steve Legends (’36 Ford Roadster) and Sam Magarino (’32 Ford roadster).

Tech Specs – “Delivery Deluxe” ’32 Ford Sedan Delivery, George Poteet, Memphis, Tennessee.
Overall Fabrication and Construction: Fast Lane Rod Shop, Donahue, Iowa
Body: steel ’32 Ford sedan delivery.
