First about me. Retired Air Force guy that finally is getting around to building his car. I've got a 28 Ford Tudor that I'll run as a Highboy, mild chop, setting on a 32 frame and 32 shell. Damn glad to be here, Having been inactive in the rod world for years I see that there's some level of care that must be taken with asking the right question in the right forum. I figured this was the place for me. my car: http://media10.dropshots.com/photos/181512/20120124/185416.jpg I'm looking for some level of input on the best configuration on a Walker radiator for a LT1. When I say best configuration I mean I want to make it as install and looks friendly as I can. Walker can place the upper/lower to my specification....I want to get it right the first time. The rep said he's use to them both being on the right side (passenger side) for those running an LT1. Can anybody out there coroborate that. FWIW, he also recommended the 3" shorter one...probally so we can drop the shell as required. As far as accessories goes My car will have air...so I suppose that's a consideration or maybe not. Any info is appreciated. thanks...and happy to be here! I just bought a 'glass '33 Ford. I need to get the body off so I can it take to the local rod shop for front and rear suspension. First, the underside of the floor pan is shiny black gel coat and I don't want to ding it up. I was going to use some carpet covered lumber and try to carefully lift each end of the body until I can get some 4x4's under it and rest it on jack stands. In the rear I can get right next to the frame, but in the front, the cross member is in the way. I could get a piece of carpeted 2x12 under it but there won't be much of the body on it. I don't have an exposed beam in my garage so I can't use a chain hoist. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Removing fiberglass body |

I installed a 1967 SB 283 with 2sp powerglide in a homebuilt ratrod. Between 1800 - 2000 rpm there is a harmonic vibration. It ocurrs when in P, N, 1, and D, so I know it's not in the drive train like shaft/diff. The freq of harmonics goes up under load (driving up hill) and lessens when load is removed. Any other RPM, the vib does not exist. It is not a balance issue since it goes away above 2000 rpm. I checked flex plate and could not see cracks. All bolts are tight. Can a torque converter do this? I read Oct 2011 tech issue by Todd Ryden (Project 51 for $15K). It mentioned they replace flexplate bolts everytime they install engine. Can you explain why? Could this have something to do with the vibs I get? Thanks, Bob

SB Chev engine/trans vibration |

To make it fit without mods, I need to install a short shaft water pump. I never saw what was on the motor for an original water pump, but research tells me it was probably a long shaft pump with a serpentine belt, meaning it will be reverse flow (counter clockwise). The short shaft pump is regular flow (clockwise). The only peripheral device to be installed is an alternator.... nothing else. The simple question is: if I install a water pump that turns in the opposite direction of the stock pump, will my motor overheat? Please, no guesses, and if you know of a website that discusses this, I would appreciate a heads up. Thanks!

Short Shaft Water Pump |

I have a small issue that I know is a common issue, but, since this is my first buildup, I dont know what tie rod to use... PROBLEM: I have a SuperBell steering link that is bolted to my spindle up front and a original but reversed Corvair steering box with the original Corvair pittman arm. The SuperBell steering link takes a "normal" sized tie rod but the Corvair pittman arm has a small hole for the tie rod and will not except the "standard aftermarket sized" tie rod. I could ream the hole in the pittman arm out to a larger size hole but I'm afraid that will severely weaken the pittman arm. What I need is a tie rod that has the correct size press stud to go through the pittman arm hole but with a 11/16 thread to screw into my drag link. Who makes such an animal and what is the part number?! Thanks, James L. The bracket for the starter relay is attached to the negative battery terminal... or the solenoid will NOT work when you hook up the remote starter switch... be sure that you keep track of which polarity the battery terminals are on... if you don't have 2 starter cables... you can use a conventional top post cable backwards.. with a longer bolt through the top post to hold it to the block with a washer... or scrounge a side post battery cable...

Test starting a motor |
