Two is Better Than One
With all the commotion over Barry Grant's innovative tri-power redesign, one might get the impression that the world forgot about two four-barrel carburetors. Barry Grant, Inc. certainly hasn't. They followed up their mind-blowing tri-power setup with an unbelievable dual-quad tunnel-ram manifold configured with two 525-, 625-, or 725-cfm Road Demon Juniors. The eight venturies align with their corresponding intake manifold runners for superb distribution and atomization. That feature alone yields crisp throttle response, easy tuning, and great performance, however, Barry Grant didn't stop there. Their Concentracast casting technique yields smooth air entries and concentric-venturi bores-a feature that lets these carburetors generate impressive velocity throughout the engine speed range, especially at low engine speed. These carburetors also feature vacuum secondary operation for street use, compact, side-hung bowls with sight glasses for safe, easy float-level adjustment, and two-corner idle adjustment. These carburetors incorporate secondary metering plates and a simple and easily adjustable inline linkage that's free of spherical bearings and other complications. Barry Grant even wet flow-tests and baseline calibrates each carburetor at the factory and includes a detailed tuning manual to get this combination on the road with a minimum hassle. Simply put, Barry Grant designed these carburetors to supercede the Holley 1850-series carburetor. For more info, write Demon Carburetion, Inc., 1450 McDonald Rd., Dept. Hot Rod Pushrods
Use the LS1 in stock trim, and it's a charm. Start changing internal components, however, and it'll show you an ugly side: its nonadjustable valvetrain parts. So COMP Cams developed seven different LS1 pushrod lengths to satisfy any engine builder. These new LS1 Hi-Tech pushrods accommodate for milled block and cylinder head surfaces and smaller or larger camshaft base circles or valves. This represents quite a problem-solving piece for the LS1's fixed rocker arm system. COMP offers the 5/16-inch diameter pushrods in lengths from 7.325 through 7.475 inches long in .025-inch increments. Nothing imparts audio realism or overwhelms the senses better than a well-tuned bass response. If you're hungry for some solid low-frequency impact, consider Audiobahn's Eternal Line 15-inch (PN AWES15P) subwoofer. Whereas Audiobahn designed the Immortal subwoofer line for maximum sound pressure level in competition environments, they designed the Eternal Series for smoother low-frequency response-a more common requirement in everyday sound systems. It's a high-efficiency (94dB sensitivity) driver that takes up to 1,300 RMS watts. It achieves such numbers with a massive 4-inch dual 4-ohm voice coil, a stout 180-ounce, triple-stacked Strontium magnet, and a 25mm top plate. The three-layer polycellulous-core cone and 2-inch foam surround ensures strength and reliability under extreme conditions and applications. The heavy-duty chrome-plated basket secures the woofer and features Audiobahn's 3-D chrome and electric blue flames for visual appeal.
