When the term "gearhead" was coined, it's a good bet John Beck was the guy being talked about. As the proprietor of Pro Machine, Beck has gained the reputation as someone who can wring every last horsepower out of the engines he builds. In his off hours, Beck campaigns a record-setting modified roadster at El Mirage and Bonneville, makes waves with a vintage blown Chrysler-powered V-drive, or spends time up on two wheels clinging to a lightning-fast Ducati. Like we said, this guy is a gearhead, so it's not surprising he's into street rods too. Over the years, Beck has had a number of cool cars, but his latest, dubbed Beck's Bomb, may be his greatest.
Unique from the ground up, the tube chassis was designed by Rob Leggett and prototyped by Rex McLeod with fabrication handled by Alex Mikkelsen of American Roadster. And while the body began life as a stodgy '31 Ford two-door sedan, Neal Loshbaugh, Matt Kennedy, and Paul Bowman at Vintage Hot Rods and Designs have given it a look that is pure hot rod.
We've been watching Beck's Model A go together with plans of doing full-blown coverage when it's done, but we just couldn't wait. There are so many unique features on this car that there might not be room to describe them all in a normal feature, so we decided to give everyone a sneak peek. Take a look at what has been done so far; there's a lot to think about and maybe a few ideas you can incorporate in your next effort.
