A second Moon breather was mounted on the left valve cover; it is used as a fresh-air inlet.
Here's a 426 plug tube (left) and an original '51-58-style tube. Hot Heads offers a selection of spark-plug tubes and seals. An old trick was to slide wheel-cylinder dust covers over the wires and into the tubes.
Chrysler flywheels are unique; they register on the outside diameter of the crankshaft flange. It's important that these surfaces are in good condition and spotlessly clean.
Hemi crankshaft flanges have eight 7/16-inch holes that are not tapped. The holes are not evenly spaced so the flywheel will only fit one way.
Stock Chrysler flywheels used unique bolts with clipped heads. Note how the bolts fit in the recess of the flywheel; no other bolts will fit.
This chart from Powermaster will determine which starter is required. We used PN 9530.
If you prefer an aftermarket flywheel, Wilcap has them. The company can also supply this tool that makes it easy to tap the flywheel flange so it accepts conventional capscrews.
While the geardrive Powermaster starter fit as it should, we found that the starter could be mounted with the motor up top by grinding the edge of the block. While this makes it easier to tuck the pipes up tight, the wires have to be connected to the starter before installation.
We used MSD 8.5mm wires to fire the plugs, which came with the long boots required on Hemis.
For headers, we chose these ceramic-coated beauties from one of the oldest names in the business, Doug's Headers. The extra-thick flanges guarantee leak-free operation.
We called on Totally Stainless for engine fasteners, and all the sets came individually packaged and labeled to make things easy.
