Smeding Performance
Long known for its quality and results, Smeding Performance has a long line of crate motors. Here are just two examples that should provide you with enough tire-shredding horsepower to make you grin from ear to ear.
First up is the 383 Extreme Small-Block Chevy with dual quads. It features all new parts and it's dyno-tuned for maximum performance equipped with aluminum-headed street engines that make 450 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque. Using dual 500-cfm carburetors specifically dyno-calibrated for this engine combination, the 383 Extreme has the looks and sounds of power for every street rodder.
Next up is the 427 Cobra Special, based on a Dart race block with four-bolt steel main caps. This Windsor-based, precision-built stroker engines feature all brand-new parts, including forged steel crank and rods, forged pistons, along with AFR heads and ARP bolts. These 540hp engines are dyno-tuned and calibrated for peak performance, and have the ultimate in looks and performance for any Ford-powered street rod when equipped with our optional Inglese induction system.
With 800 hp and 800 lb-ft of torque on tap, the pump-gas-friendly 8-71 blown 540 standard deck engine will definitely put you at the head of the street rod pack. It uses all new components, including a four-bolt main block, forged crank and rods, forged pistons, AFR aluminum heads, with a completely polished 8-71 blower with twin 750 carbs and stainless fuel lines with a premium ball bearing linkage. When the hand-assembled engine is completed, it is dyno-tuned and tested for the utmost in power and reliability, and promises to give you the ultimate in blown street rod engines.
The 572 Extreme Big-Block-which uses a CNC-machined, splayed four-bolt main cap standard deck block as its base-is the biggest of the bad boys from Smeding Performance. Cranking out more than 700 hp, this aluminum-headed beast makes more than 700 lb-ft of torque with its custom-ground hydraulic roller cam, 1,000-cfm carb, and single-plane intake. And the best part is that this brute power is made using 91-octane pump gas. Making this engine even more attractive for the street rod market is the optional polish package and the Billet Specialties Accessory Front Drive.

Speed-O-Motive
Speed-O-Motive has been at it for more than 60 years, with all of its blocks and heads machined on state-of-the-art CNC Rottler equipment. Any and every motor can be customized to your preference, and the company provides free shipping on the two motors listed here (we thought that might get your attention!). While SOM can build you a custom motor, the company also builds popular horsepower combinations for AMC, Chevy (big- and small-block), Ford (big-block, small-block, and modular), Mopar (big-block, small-block, and Hemi), and Honda.
We thought it would be interesting to present two of SOM's more potent Mopar V-8s: the 540-cid, all-aluminum Hemi stroker, and the 500-cid 440 Wedge stroker engine.
The 540 Hemi is based on an all-aluminum Keith Black block that is CNC-machined and then outfitted with a 4340 forged-steel 4.250 stroker crankshaft, 4340 forged-steel 7.100 H-beam rods, and custom-forged pistons fitted with Total Seal gapless rings. The Stage 5 street aluminum heads and valvetrain are also part of this package, coupled with Crane hydraulic roller lifters moved by a COMP Cams 'shaft and oiled by a Melling high-volume oil pump resting in a Milodon 7-quart pan. ARP fasteners are used throughout. A Stage 5 dual-quad intake is used and then fitted with a pair of PC Carbs custom Holley four-barrels. Lighting the fire is an MSD ignition to the 700-horse, 700-lb-ft torque Hemi.
The 500-inch Wedge stroker receives the same attention that its bigger-brother Hemi does. A 4340 forged-steel stroker crankshaft is used with forged-steel H-beam connecting rods and ceramic-coated forged JE pistons wrapped with Total Seal moly rings. Clevite H-series rod and main bearings are used while an Edelbrock Performer RPM aluminum heads, Victor intake, and a Holley HP series 850-cfm carb is used. A COMP Cams solid roller camshaft, roller liters, pushrods, and shaft rocker arm kit is employed. Melling for the oil pump and Milodon for the 7-quart pan are used along with the MSD ignition. From here the motor is dyno-tested and you receive your 585-horse, 670-lb-ft torque Mopar.
