Another requirement in using either disc kit is to use the inner bearing adapter Speedway supplies (we're holding the old bearing adaptor that came on the Super Bell spindles that we removed).

Once the bearing adapter was heated up (Speedway recommends 400 degrees for 20 minutes) and dropped on to the spindle, we began installing the 946 kit by attaching the caliper bracket. You can, of course, also press the bearing on if you have a hydraulic press. Note Speedway calls out their driver side parts with an "L" and passenger side with an "R."

Some kits won't allow the use of a bolt-on steering arm, but both of these kits do.

In the 946 kit the spindle-side bearing race doesn't need to be removed so, after packing the inner bearing with grease, you can drop it in and then gently and evenly tap the seal in place. The next step is to put the rotor on the spindle, sliding it to the back, then install the outer packed bearing, followed by a keyed washer, a thick spacer, a locking washer, then a castle nut, cotter pin, and dust cap.

With the 946 caliper you can remove both sleeves that are in the larger of the two mounting holes.

Retaining clips are installed on the back of the piston-side brake pads.

The base of the caliper-side pad is installed in the caliper first, then the top section just pops in place. The outer side pad rests in place in the caliper without any mounting device.

The only threaded section of the two-caliper mounting screws attaches to the caliper bracket after sliding through the ear of the caliper.

Once in place, both screws should look like this. Don't be alarmed if the caliper can minimally slide back and forth on the mounting screws-they're supposed to be able to do that.

All completely installed, the 946 kit should look something like this.

For the 942 kit, you must first tap the inner bearing race out and replace it with the one Speedway supplies in their kit, but not forgetting to add the small spacer before the new race goes in.

The 942 bracket goes on up top just like the 946 bracket did: with the Speedway-supplied hardware.

But when we tried to bolt up the passenger side steering arm, we found we had to slightly grind the edge of both the forward/lower bolt (the only one that doesn't pass through the 942 bracket) as well as a small section of the spindle, too, so everything fit. And since the bolt was a little long, we added a spacer here to make up the difference of not having a bracket to pass through.

Once the 942 bracket is in place on the spindle, you can see an area that will also have to be clearanced before the bigger caliper will fit.

Speedway recommends to first scribe the spindle, remove the bracket, then grind away, but we found it easier to do with the bracket in place (kind of like match porting).

Since the wheel hides the caliper from view, here is what the 942 kit looks like from the inside.

Here is the 946 kit-a little smaller but with a cast bracket that looks like an older part (something we like).
