When positioning the tank, we couldn't forget that there is going to be a bed floor in this truck someday. All lines and fittings must clear underneath. The wood kit hinges hang down 5 or 6 inches, but the tank will clear, and the filler will be easily accessible underneath one of the boards.

When the installation is complete, the angle iron straps will be welded to the upper edge of the tank. Rubber strips will be glued in place between the straps and the tank for insulation and to eliminate metal-on-metal contact.

Summit offers fuel tank mounting straps to secure the cell from underneath, but these were built at HRBD using 16-gauge steel. When measuring the correct length, an inch was added at each end of the straps. That extra sheetmetal was doubled over to create a mounting pad where the straps will be bolted to the crossmembers. Each pad was drilled with a center hole area for the bolt, and additional holes for welding the folded-over segment.
