The direct-fit, custom-design frame system, from Chris Alston’s Chassisworks,
is an extremely versatile engineering and construction approach. This technique enables Chassisworks to expertly prepare a sub-assembled kit or complete factory-welded frame, built precisely to your project requirements. Front hub-to-hub width, ground clearance, wheelbase, and rear frame width can each be varied independently to create a correct-fitting frame and vehicle stance for projects, including g-Machine/pro-touring muscle cars and street rods, custom street trucks, pro street classics, and more.
The heart of the direct-fit frame system is Chassisworks’ g-Street front crossmember, featuring rack-and-pinion steering and double A-arm suspension with antiroll bar. The crossmember and framerails are made from 4x2x0.120-inch wall box tube, mandrel bent on a computer-controlled tube bender for precision fit and wrinkle-free bends. One of four rear suspension configurations can be selected, each with its own list of options. A well-detailed (60 pages) Custom-Design Frame buyer’s guide is available on the Chassisworks website.

Fatman Fabrications’ frame stubs were developed to allow the installation of a modern IFS into cars whose original frame did not allow use of a simple crossmember. By carefully plotting the location of the radiator, sheetmetal, and bumper mounts, these trick units can easily replace the original front frame and supply Fatman’s custom IFS systems for up-to-date handling and style. Options include coilovers, air ride, big brakes, power steering, and so on to dial in the design you like best. Each stub is specific to its application, covering nearly any ’34-64 car that was built with a factory-installed independent front suspension, so there’s no need to adapt a “Universal” you-make-it-fit-kit!
Fatman Fabrications’ Stage II IFS system will provide the ultimate in handling and style, with application for nearly any vehicle. Polished stainless steel control arms are a no-extra-cost standard, using OEM quality forged upper arm shafts with stamped knurling for a clean and easy-to-align system. Conventional coil spring and premium gas shocks combine for a great ride and easy maintenance. Optional power steering, sway bars, and trick brakes allow you to personalize your installation.
This IFS forms the basis for over 200 applications that fit your original frame in most cases, Fatman’s frame stubs for cars that need them, and Fatman’s line of 15 different complete new chassis. The Fatguys have even designed it for an easy future conversion to air ride later on! All this, and a price without sticker shock.
